Film Projects

Welcome to Stoolboom.com!

My name is Chris Dunlop, and one of my hobbies is visiting filming locations from my favorite movies and TV shows.  I try to take photographs from the exact same spots as the camera locations.  I then use a variety of techniques to show the results.

Videos

These combine my photos with original movie footage, fading between the two.  This is a great way to show the film locations within the context of the story.

Photo Sliders

This technique shows a movie screenshot and a current photo, and lets you swipe back and forth between the two.  It's perfect for comparing scenes "then-and-now".

Storymaps

Storymaps let you explore a map of the film scene locations and see where the cameras were set up.

Click on any of the film projects to see everything that's available for that film.  Alternatively, you can select Videos, Photo Sliders or Storymaps on the menu to browse each of these techniques.

I hope you enjoy exploring the site!

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad was filmed primarily in New Mexico.  Most of the scenes I captured were located in the To'Hajiilee Indian Reservation.  I also took photos of scenes that were filmed in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The climactic shootout was filmed in northern Spain.  The graveyard was constructed for the movie, and was abandoned after filming.  It has since been restored.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I visited several iconic scene locations - the "Raindrops" bicycle scene, the knife fight, and the jump location.  These were filmed in Utah and Colorado.

Many of the beautiful western vistas were filmed in or near Monument Valley, on the Utah/Arizona border.

Forrest Gump

You may notice the similarity of landscape with Once Upon a Time in the West.  This scene was filmed just north of Monument Valley.  This specific location is now called Forrest Gump Point.

The Walking Dead

Many of the scenes of The Walking Dead were filmed in two towns in Georgia - Senoia and Grantville.
